New Last Name

Alright everyone, the day has finally come in my life. The day that I begin the process of taking on my husband’s last name. Some might say, “It’s about time!” While others may ask, “Why on Earth would you do that?” We have been married five months. I should have changed it sooner, but I’m sort of attached to my maiden name which consisted of my first name, my mom’s maiden name, and of course, my (dad’s) surname. My last name has got some deep roots back in the Philippines, and I’ve been told, that it’s important. But now, my last name is different. It’s short, common, and everyone mistakes me for Hispanic. But hey, it’s my husband’s last name. I mean, it’s okay to take your time assuming your spouse’s last name, right? Because I see a lot of my friends changing their names immediately, yet here I am, barely going through the process five months later. I did change it on Facebook so that it’s legit. 😉

By the way, I only spent about twenty minutes and without an appointment at the Social Security Administration. I got my new SS card about three days later. I spent probably around forty minutes at the DMV, with an appointment. It also costed me $27 to get a new license, and that came in one week later. Now, I’ve started to call my bank and creditors to submit a name change. Whew, almost there.

Currently, we are at a “stay-cation” about forty miles away from our home. It’s comped, comfortable, and a quick wannabe getaway. We like when we get these kind of perks. Now, can I get free vacation to say, Paris? Please? 😛

Daylight Savings Time

A lot of times, I feel that there is not enough time in a day to do everything I need to do, but today, that holds truer than any other days of the year. I mean sleep is for the weak anyway. Just kiIMG_7803dding. I could have totally used that extra hour. To help us kind of cope with the loss of an hour, Mike and I went do Dunkin’ Donuts at 5:30 in the morning. I still don’t feel I can function properly, but that might be more of a personal thing rather than a DST thing.

We are heading over to my brother’s house for the day. Mike is getting ready and I can hear the Moana soundtrack playing. I am both proud and giggly. Haha! Anyway, I’ve decided that I will go bare-faced and hair undone. I blame this on DST. But also because my face can use the day to just breathe. Ok forgive me but I have to stop. The Moana soundtrack proves to be distracting and funny. LOL!

February Happened

Finally, a day off with nothing to do. Actually that’s wrong because there are plenty of things to do, but what’s an hour to myself? I deserve it after all.

I am finally getting settled in at the new workplace – two and a half months later! While I wish things were like that instead of this, or that this should be this way and not that way, I like where I’m at. The people I work with are nice and helpful, and it’s nice and liberating not being the automatic go-to person. New girl perks.

Now that February is gone – what happened in February? For our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple, Mike and I went out for some sushi at one of our usual places in Sacramento. It was nothing romantic but it works for us. The following weekend, we drove down to Orange County. We stopped by Valencia for an extra early breakfast and Stumptown coffee! We then spent the day at Disneyland, where we stuffed our faces as much as we could. We grabbed a light lunch and some drinks at Cove Bar and had an amazing dinner at Blue Bayou. The highlight of the day was hands-down watching the Main Street Electrical Parade! I love all the Disney parades, but the Electrical Parade brings all the feels and memories from childhood. Can I cry now? Haha. TIP: There are two different meal plans that will give you a preferred viewing for the parade. Check out Disneyland’s website for more information. It’s worth it if you don’t want to park yourselves for a few hours before the show.

The following day was a beautiful, warm day so we decided to head out Laguna Beach for lunch and shenanigans. Downfall of that weekend though? Learning that the Sacramento Kings traded Boogie. I may have cried a little.

Now is probably the time to get off. I have a lot of cleaning up to do. A LOT. Happy Saturday, y’all! 🙂

Family from UAE

If I could relive last weekend again, I would. My cousin and his family came to visit all the way from the UAE. I hadn’t seen my cousin in about ten years, and it was my first time meeting his daughters. Their USA agenda was so packed, but I am so thankful for the three days I got to spend with them.

Because it was their first time and we had very limited time, we took them to San Francisco, Napa, and Lake Tahoe. I mean who doesn’t want to see the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Union Square, wineries, and snow? Each day, we were home for dinner, which made for more wonderful family memories. Their youngest daughters took it upon herself to make me her honorary “mommy” for the weekend. It was super sweet.

I’m a Woman and I Love Food

The inauguration happened two days ago. My newsfeed has been filled with some sort of opinion and emotions about the turn of administration. I am disheartened but hopeful. I have not watched the actual ceremony, but it is saved on my DVR. I worked my first Saturday yesterday, but if I hadn’t, I would have made my way to Sacramento or San Francisco.  I would have marched for my values and for what I believe in, not just for myself, but for my family, my friends, for the people who care, for the future. On my way home, I thought to myself how beautiful our world is to allow one person affect and consume us in whatever way we are affected – good or bad. Then I prayed. My faith allowed me to be at peace, at least for the moment, knowing that God always has a plan. I believe that there’s a reason for everything, and many times, we just don’t know why yet. And that is why I am hopeful.

Now that I have let my feelings out, let me tell you about my week last week. It was expensive. We didn’t go grocery shopping, so we basically ate out every night. Oops! We will get it done today, I promise! I can’t complain though because we ate the most amazing things all week. The best part? We ate local! 🙂 We had pho that totally ‘hit to the spot’ during the storm, and the Truffle Crab Noodle Soup that I had for the very first time on Friday was to-die-for. We finally tried the Thai restaurant down the street from our house, and now we understand why it has 4.5 stars on Yelp! Also, we went to my favorite happy hour spot – oysters, wine, and clam chowder!

Lastly, we went to visit my parents. My poor mom had to get surgery on her foot, so she’s currently immobile. I feel so bad when I see either of my parents feeling helpless, but I love their resilience and I love how they take care of one another. They are truly my “relationship goal.”

Two dozens of oysters and clam chowdaaah! I wanted more oysters, but I was told that would be bad. Oh well.

Seriously, cheese and fresh truffle?! Genius! Also, I saw this Pink Moscato at Target, and thought, “Wow, you’re pretty! I want you.” Thanks to my dad for that wine rack in the background. Next house, I may need a wine room.

Have a good week everyone!

Life Lately, Jan 2017 Edition

Hello World and Happy New Year! November and December seriously happened in a snap, or at least that’s what it felt like. So many things happened between my last post and now that I don’t know where to begin. Maybe I’ll do a quick recap now, and do more in-depth posts later on.

So remember that wedding thing I was talking about? It totally happened! 😀 I am married! Ahhh! It’s true what people say – that the days leading up to your wedding will have you feeling all sorts of emotions. People said I looked pretty calm for a bride-to-be, but I was totally freaking out on the inside. Honestly, I was truly lucky enough to have my entire family by my side, helping me in whatever way they could. I felt so loved! Oh, did my groom cry? Duh! LOL. More on this later, aka another post.

The honeymoon? I mean, can we just go back to those two weeks when we were in paradise? I would do this part of the getting-married-thing all over again! We took a Disney cruise to the Bahamas and then stayed another week in Orlando. We never wanted to go home. Nuh uh. Take us back!

How was our first Christmas as a married couple? Although it seemed like the routine was the same, some things just felt different. Different in a way that made it feel a little more cozy. 😉 Also, those gifts for our parents? They no longer have to say, “Dad/Uncle” or “Mom/Auntie” because now they say “Mom” or “Dad.” It saves my fingers from cramping. Just kidding.

Finally, this whole living together thing? It has been fun and frustrating, but mostly fun. LOL. I am also finding out things about myself that are pleasantly surprising, if I do say so myself… like cooking or doing laundry! 😛 Please don’t judge me.

That’s it for now. I’m feeling like a grandma, needing to sleep before midnight. I promise to write more about the above mentioned events soon, and then some. I hope everyone’s having a great, happy 2017 so far! *Cheers to a wonderful 2017!

Life Lately

Currently wondering: When the heck am I going to sleep?! Between traveling, partying, and moving these past few days, I have been running on an average of three hours of sleep daily. Oh my!

In the last five days, I managed to take two round-trip flights to Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Also in the last five days, I’ve had my final fitting, went to Disneyland for the last time this year, attended a makeshift bachelorette party in Vegas, and received the keys to our brand new place. All of that in addition to living life, of course. My family has been so sweet in helping us move in to the new place… slowly but surely.

In ten days, I will be getting married. Whaat?! That is so soon… sigh. I can’t believe it’s finally going to happen. How do brides stay so calm during this time of their lives? Or am I feeling like they were – calm on the outside but soooo nervous and anxious on the inside?!

Anyway, I am hoping and praying that everything turns out well, if not perfectly. I also hope that everyone has fun and no one goes home hungry.
